Cleophas
Cleophas was one of the two disciples who were going to Emmaus on the day of the resurrection, when Jesus drew near and conversed with them. "Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene." A Eusebius' tradition states that Simeon, son of Clopas succeeded James as bishop of Jerusalem. Hegesippus, who was born early in the next century, says that Cleophas was Joseph's brother, so that Mary would have been Mary's sister-in-law. Cleophas was probably a Grecianized form of Alphaeus. (Cleopas) Not to be confused with Cleophas, or Clopas of John 19:25.
